The family strengthening program of TRANSITIONS seeks to help parents and caregivers of children ages 10-14 find smooth transitions for their families. Unity Center recognizes that transitioning through adolescence can be hard and filled with difficulties such as cyber-bullying, negative peer pressure, drugs, alcohol, sexting, depression and low self esteem. The TRANSITIONS program, offered by Family Cornerstones Inc., uses 6 weekly sessions to help families deal with these transitions by learning communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and stress managment skills. TRANSITIONS seeks to help families create a positive family dynamic conducive to resisting negative peer pressure, establishing appropriate boundaries, and recognizing individual's strengths.
Families who participate in the TRANSITIONS program will have a family meal and childcare provided for each of the 6 weekly sessions. In addition, gas vouchers and transportation via bus will be available for committed families. While there is no cost to attend, families are asked to engage in the interactive activies that make up the curriculum of TRANSITIONS. Unity Center also asks participants to be open to interacting with the other families in the program. Upon graduation from the program, families who have faithfully attended (at least 5/6 weeks) will be given a cash award as well as a fully paid family outing to Chattanooga.
TRANSITIONS at Unity Center would not be possible without the generous support of The Tucker Foundation, Collins Oil, and various local restaraunts.
